Feature and editorial writing are a distinct form of communication mostly for print and online media but crossing over to blogging and writing for business, the professions, and academia.
A feature article or story is objective, entertaining, and written to draw the reader into the subject matter. Often based around an interview or multiple interviews to ensure impartiality, it is written in easily digestible paragraphs that contain an introduction, copy body, and conclusion.
The editorial performs a different purpose to the feature. Whilst as creative it reflects the writer’s opinion and is therefore biased. An editorial is by definition a point of view. In some cases an editorial expresses an opinion on a previously written feature, news story, book, film, exhibition or topic.
